YOGA
I first received yoga from my history teacher in high school. To this day I am still so grateful to her as she gave me tools I have been able to use since a young age. When I finished high school, my extensive yoga journey began with studies in Satyananda, Oki, Iyengar, Ashtanga Yoga and Vipassana meditation. In 2007 I travelled to the South of France to study and practise meditation with Zen Buddhist Master, Thich Nhat Hanh. In 2008, I began my studies of Svastha Yoga with students of Krishnamacharya, A.G Mohan, Indra Mohan in Chennai India.Their son Dr Ganesh Mohan was also teaching on this 6 week training. My studies with Mohan began with the Sutras (sacred scriptures, asana, chanting and sound meditation), My studies continued with the them, as they began to travel to different parts of Australia and Bali. These studies included Yoga for women, wellbeing and Yogic Mindfullness training I also studied Yoga Therapy with Dr Ganesh Mohan and Sound meditation, the sutras and women’s health with Nitya Mohan.
In 2000 I completed a nine- month teacher training with Yoga Arts in Byron Bay and am Cert IV trained.
I am an accredited Yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance in America and a senior Yoga teacher with Yoga Australia. I have taught Yoga in Byron Bay, Sydney, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Bali and extensively in remote Aboriginal communities in Arnhem Land in the North Territory and on Groote Eylandt.
As we grow in our practice, we release stress, anxiety and transform pain from our mind and body. We gain clarity, focus, insight and patience. We can create a strong supple healthy body and learn to listen deeply to ourselves and to others. A wonderful benefit of yoga is that we can move through resistance, learn to accept ourselves, become at ease in silence and be willing to live truthfully on the path that feels right for us. Becoming more aware of subtle energy opens us to our sensitivity and encourages us to appreciate the beauty in the world. Yoga is a life journey, an inspirational tool for the body mind and soul.

Testimonials:
“I met Mary when she kindly agreed to run a yoga session at my home in the Byron hinterland for a group of my friends, an eclectic array of women. Several years later we are still meeting weekly and spend 2 hours together where Mary takes us on a journey forgetting the stresses and pressing tasks of the day or week; where our bodies and minds relax and we focus on our well- being. Mary masterfully manages our individual needs, the varying abilities, our injuries or our personal predicaments. She is kind, gentle yet strong, skilled and knowledgeable in understanding both the mind and physical workings of the body. Thank you Mary, our weekly practice is pivotal to my week.”
“Mary’s yoga classes are divine. I met Mary on Groote Eylandt where she offered 3 classes a week. She quickly built up a great, caring rapport with her students and we all looked forward to her classes. She has an intuitive way of knowing what the needs of her class are. She is completely present for you and you are left feeling invigorated and clear. Her mindfulness makes her classes feel like body and mind are being nurtured. I was working in a stressful job and I felt that Mary was able to support me in managing my stress through her classes as well as helping me stretch out my tightness and knots. I felt so much lighter and happier after her classes. I highly recommend!”
“Thanks so much for bringing an amazing Yoga standard to Mili! What a privilege to be a student in your classes Yapa 😆

“I love Mary’s yoga classes. Mary guides a beautiful yoga session which I find to be both invigorating and relaxing at the same time. I always feel like my body and spirit have had a cleanse after yoga with Mary. A beautiful mix of strengthening and/or cleansing poses and flows, and meditative breathing to calm and nurture the soul. Mary is right onto helping make any adjustments needed in the poses, to keep my body safe, and either help me go deeper into the pose, or to help me listen to my body to see if it’s saying “not today”....and to allow that. Thankyou Mary.”
