Yoga

Mary McCarthy began her yoga journey at the age of 15. She has been teaching Yoga asana for twenty-five years. In addition to the physical benefits of yoga, she has found Yoga to be a great tool to increase focus and help her through life’s challenges.

Meditation

Mary began practicing Meditation at a time in her life where she was experiencing a considerable amount of loss of loved ones. It helped her through these difficult times and over many years has provided a wealth of benefits for her health, wellbeing, self-reflection, learning and creativity. She has now been teaching Meditation for over 28 years.

Mary has taught Yoga and Meditation in Sydney, Byron Bay, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bali and extensively in various parts of North East Arnhem Land in the remote Northern Territory and on Norfolk Island and Groote Eylandt.

Healing Sessions

Mary became aware of her intuition and premonitions in her early teenage years. Through grief and the loss of loved ones, her intuitive nature grew and she became interested in the healing arts. She has a background in various massage therapies, Clinical Hypnotherapy, Kinesiology, grief counselling and a number of energetic healing modalities. She is a Trauma-Sensitive HeartMath Certified Practitioner.

Mary started her work at Balmain in Sydney (where she ran many workshops and classes) and went from there to the Northern Beaches in Sydney, to Byron Bay and then North East Arnhem Land. She has worked with people of all ages and backgrounds to support them on their journey to wellbeing of the mind body and spirit for three decades.

The book

Mary held a long term dream to live with Aboriginal people. She was drawn to both the education and spiritual worlds. Her first career was a primary school and E.S.L teacher.

In 2001, when Mary was teaching Yoga in Byron Bay she had her first trip to Arnhem Land in the far North of Australia. This brought her back into the world of Education. In 2003, Mary began her life on Milingimbi Island teaching in the school.  She was adopted into the Gupapuyŋu tribe and became very passionate about traditional ways of life and the languages spoken by the Yolŋu people. She returned to university and updated her skills in Education and studied a Graduate Certificate in Yolŋu Languages and Culture. Mary felt urged to a write her story  about life with Yolŋu. Her memoir is currently being published.

For almost two decades now Mary has been a teacher, supporting language and culture in various remote communities across the top end. She was also invited to share her knowledge of Yoga and Healing extensively in the Milingimbi community.
